Class 4 is new to our school as of September 2025 as we become a Primary School!! For 2025/2026 Class 4 is made up of year 5 pupils, from Septmeber 2026 we will have both Year 5 and Year 6. Miss Garland is our new class teacher Tuesday - Thursday and Mrs Wilson teaches us History, Geography, Art, DT and English on Mondays. We are supported by our teaching assistant Miss Bruce. In class 4 we develop our skills playing the violin and will take on more leadership roles within school. In Year 6 we will have another exciting residential... watch this space....!
Class 3 starts at 8:45am and finishes at 3:15pm - please drop off and collect from the main playground. Your child is allowed to walk to and from school alone once in Class 4 but parents/carers must have completed the relevant permission form at the office.
Reading
In class 4 we enjoy listening to a range of stories and we are read to at least 3 times a week by an adult. We have guided sessions focusing on comprehension to help us prepare for our SATS. The children are able to choose a book for pleasure from our class library to take home and can change this whenever they need to. Your child will continue to have a 'levelled' reading book from our reading scheme - please make sure this book and their yellow reading record is in school every day, the teacher will check weekly and we ask parents to please sign the reading record book. If they read 5 times per week they will receive a prize!
PE
Your child should wear their PE kit to school EVERY TUESDAY. This consists of black shorts or black joggers (no branding), trainers, school jumper or hoodie and a red t-shirt with the school badge. Swimming takes place on Fridays at the Swan leisure centre, children should bring their swimming costume and towel in a separate bag. Please ensure every piece of clothing is named.
Water botttes
All children are expected to have fresh water in their water bottle every day. Bottles can be purchased from the school office. Please ensure bottles are only filled with plain water.
Homework
As we are now in UKS2 for our next phase of education we get slightly more homework in class 4. Every Monday your child will receive spelling and grammar homework and this must be completed independently by your child and returned on the following Monday. On Fridays your child will receive maths homework and this again must be completed independently and returned on the following Monday. It is really important that your child continues to access their online accounts for Maths Whizz and Spelling Shed regularly to help them.
Year 6 SATS
Year 6 SATS are national Key Stage 2 tests in England, taken in May, to measure your child's academic progress and the school's performance. They include English papers on reading and grammar, punctuation, and spelling (GPS), and three maths papers covering arithmetic and reasoning. Results are reported as scaled scores, with 100 being the expected standard, and are sent to your child's secondary school to help with future learning
