CATHOLIC SCHOOLS INSPECTION
Following our diocesan inspection on the 5th & 6th February 2020, please find below our inspection report. We are delighted to share that the inspection found St Cuthbert's to be an 'OUTSTANDING Catholic school'. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for their continued hard work which is proven in this fantastic outcome! We hope you enjoy reading the report as much as we have and thank you for your continued support.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Religious Education is the core subject taught in St Cuthbert's and 10% of all curriculum time is given over to the teaching of this subject in every class.
We follow the recommended 'Come and See' programme approved by the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. Below shows the overview of the programme, as we have mixed age classes we rotate the year group focus every other year and differentiate accordingly. This year (2024-2025) Class 2 are following the year 1 strand and Class 3 are following the year 3 strand.
Please find more details about the RE curriculum by clicking the link to our RE Curriculum page.
CATHOLIC LIFE AND MISSION
Here at St Cuthbert's our Catholic identity is evident throughout school life in the way each person in the community treats each other. In everything we do we seek to...
"Act justly,
Love mercifully
and walk humbly with your God"
Micah 6:8
MISSION STATEMENT
Our Mission
In God’s family, we love, we grow, we learn
Our Vision
We believe that the community of St Cuthbert's, at all times and in all that it does, should strive to serve as witness to the Catholic Faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ.
We believe that parents are the first and foremost educators of their children and that we are called to support them in their God -given task.
We believe that the school has a duty to ensure that each child is valued and encouraged to achieve human wholeness - spiritually, morally, emotionally, intellectually in a happy, secure and strongly Christian environment.
We believe that the school has a duty to provide the best possible education for each and every child so they achieve their full potential.
OUR PARISH
OUR LADY & ST CUTHBERT'S
We belong to the parish of Our Lady & St Cuthbert's in Berwick-Upon-Tweed. We are the most northerly parish in England and belong to the diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. Our beautiful church is tucked away on Ravensdowne close to the town centre.
We like to visit the church, enjoying a picturesque walk round the Berwick walls! The children plan and take part in Masses for special occasions and important feasts as well as visiting the church to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith.
Parishioners are welcome to join us for Masses in church and for Masses and liturgies at our school, we are keen to continue to strengthen these links and develop a strong relationship between the school and the parish.
Our Parish Priest is Father Shaun O'Neill - he is a regular visitor to our school!
Weekly Mass times:
-
Saturday evening vigil Mass at 6:00pm
-
Sunday Morning Mass at 9:30am

MINI VINNIES
Mini Vinnies are the smaller representatives of the St Vincent De Paul society. They are part of a worldwide organisation and do good for others. So far we have raised money for Mary's Meals, Apostleship of the Sea; Marie Curie, CAFOD, Children in Crossfire, St Cuthbert's Care and deliver Christmas cards to the elderly in the Parish every year as well as our annual tea parties hosted for parishioners in school..
Click on the link below to access the official website, you can even find the Mini Vinnie song by clicking on this logo...
Lots of our children want to become a Mini-Vinnie, which is fantastic! We ask each child to write a letter explaining why they would be a good Mini Vinnie and then put the letters in a hat to choose 4 at random!

PRAYER & LITURGY
Collective Worship is at the heart of life in St Cuthbert's School. We gather as a school together on a Monday to listen to our 'Statement to Live By' for the week ahead and try our best to live out that statement.
-
On a Friday at Celebration assembly we award 'Star of the week' to a pupil in every year group who has shown that they have lived out our statement.
-
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays we gather within our own classes to pray together, sometimes we may pray in our prayer garden.
-
On Thursdays we gather as a school once again for worship, we often use the Statement for the week or the Wednesday Word as a theme for the liturgy. Each year group takes a turn leading family worship every term and family members are invited to join us.
-
On Fridays we gather within our classes once again and join in child-led worship. Children follow the 4 steps of; Gather, Word, Response and Mission to plan and lead their liturgy.
Daily prayers also punctuate the school day:
Morning
Prayer
Good Morning Lord we praise Your Holy name
and thank You for giving us this lovely new day
Snack
Prayer
We close our eyes and softly say
thank you God for our snack today
Lunchtime Prayer
Thank you for the world so sweet
Thank you for the food we eat
Thank you for the birds that sing
Thank you God for everything
Afternoon Prayer
Good afternoon Lord we praise Your Holy name
and thank You for giving us this lovely new day
Home Time Prayer
Now the day is over we lift our hands and say
Thank you heavenly Father for today
We're sorry for the wrong things but glad about the right
Keep us heavenly Father in your love tonight
STATEMENTS TO LIVE BY
Each week begins with a whole school act of worship in which the children are introduced to our 'statement to live by', these statements not only underpin our PSHE curriculum but also our whole way of thinking in St Cuthbert's. You will find the weekly statements displayed on our school website, newsletters and in each classroom, they help give us a prayer focus for the week and each Friday a member of each year group is named 'star of the week' for living out the statement in a particular way!

SPIRITUAL COUNCILLORS
